Pssst…Carrots are Loud!

While I have a little down time at work I thought I would update y’all on how I am doing. Today has been a good eating day so far. I am trying to eat as many raw fruits and vegetables as possible. I fixed enough green smoothie to have a quart for breakfast and a quart for an afternoon snack. I also brought some homemade guacamole, but it seemed to have too much garlic and onion for my taste. I didn’t want to eat chips just yet so I brought some baby carrots to dip in it. Yeah, that didn’t go over so well. First off the carrots were really thick, not the little thin baby carrots and these carrots were so loud. Every time I would try to be quiet chomping on them it just seemed to be even louder. It felt like the office was completely quiet except for the massive loud chomping sound of carrots. You know when you get that feeling that everybody is probably thinking which cubicle is that loud obnoxious sound coming from? So, note to self, buy smaller carrots.

Even after my afternoon smoothie I still seemed to be hungry by 3:30. So my co-worker gave me some almonds to snack on. I don’t think that’s too bad to have a 100 calorie pack of almonds.

Not sure what me and the hubby are doing for dinner yet. But, so far I’ve been very good. Oh, also I tried putting coconut water in my smoothie and it was divine! I kind of had a tropical smoothie this morning. Kind of like a green pina colada: Coconut water, pineapple, spinach, kale, and some strawberries. Yum! Have I mentioned I LOVE my Vita-mix?! 🙂

Experimentation

Last night I went to get as much produce as I could to make different kinds of smoothies. So, this morning I got up and went to try a new smoothie recipe. This one called for half a beet and it would look hot pink. Well I have established I don’t like beets. It was AWFUL!!! Of course I think part of it was maybe I didn’t scrub the beet hard enough when I was cleaning it? I don’t know but no matter what I added to it, it tasted like dirt! So I scratched that idea, cleaned the vitamix and started a new one. This time I washed some kale and put that in. Then I put in a frozen berry mix, a banana, and some flax seeds. I like the flavor but hate the texture of the flax so I think I’ll leave that alone for a while. So that’s my adventures so far.

Can eating this healthy taste so good?!

The answer: YES!!! I put my vitamix to work. I have been talking aobut this for weeks. So, when it came in I took it over to a friends house and made a green smoothie for everyone to try. I got my mom, my friend, and grandma to try it. It was so funny to see the looks on their faces as they sniffed it and then finally took a sip. Then my mom was said, “Wow, this is really good!” And, Grandma Punch (who’s 84) took a sip and said, “Tastes like a milkshake, but if I’m in the bathroom all night, I’ll be calling you!” Hehehe! Needless to say, I made a few more believers in the green smoothie! It was so much fun!

So, this morning I got up and made another green smoothie for breakfast to take with me to work:

I know to some it may not look very good, but it tastes AMAZING!!! I found myself craving it when I got up this morning. I put in 2 bananas, 7 strawberries, 2 cups of frozen pinapple chunks, and 3 cups of baby spinach and some water. My strawberries were frozen to, so my smoothie was really thick and cold. 🙂 I have these cups we got at our state fair that are 32 oz, I believe.

So, that’s what I am putting it in to take to work. Of course it sure brings up a lot of interesting conversation at work! I’m on the right road finally. I am heading to the grovery store when I get off work. I wonder if there’s any store in the boonies of Arkansas where I live that would sell spirulina? 🙂

REALLY?! REALLY?! YES!!!

Ok, y’all I have to share with you the most awesome freakin news ever!!! Ok maybe not ever..but for me right now it’s really freakin awesome news! I got to order my Vita-mix 5200!!!! It should actually be here by Friday! I am so excited!!! I can’t wait to make my green smoothies again and fresh guacamole, salsa, hummus, rasberry sorbet, broccoli and cheese soup, taco soup,…and the list goes on and on!

As I had already told y’all earlier this year, that where I work is doing a Biggest Loser competition and so far I have not done all that hot. The first week I was excited after weighing and I had lost 2.4 lbs..then this week..I gained 3lbs!!! What the Hey?! Ugh….so starting monday: I will be starting a Green Smoothie Challenge. These smoothies really are so good and so healthy for you. I will be getting an average of 15 servings of fruits and vegetables from my smoothies. I am so tired of saying I am going to lose weight and then never sticking with it or really losing the weight. I want to kiss this weight goodbye!

I know my husband has told me that for the money we spent on the Vitamix I better use it everyday..So, I want to post on here what I make in it and keep myself accountable to staying on track. I promise you honey, I will use it at least once every day if not more! I want to get into the habit of getting up and going to the gym and then coming back home and having a green smoothie for breakfast.

My plan is that for the next 12 weeks I have a green smoothie for breakfast and for lunch then have a sensible dinner. I will probably have a snack in the afternoon of something like homemade guacamole or salsa with raw veggies.

So, I have the weekend to buy my groceries and get used to using my Vitamix..then Monday the fun starts. I want to blow my co-workers away with how well I am doing; not blow them away with how much I am gaining! Here we go! 🙂

Feeling Good

Hello everyone and Happy New Year! The first song I heard this morning was Michael Buble’s “Feeling Good”. I just thought what a perfect and fitting song this is. “It’s a new dawn; It’s a new day; It’s a new life, and I’m feeling good.” That’s exactly how I feel. This is a new dawn, a new day! This is a new year! I don’t want to waste this year like I did last year. Last year I felt stuck, depressed, like there was no way out of this vicious cycle. Not anymore.

This year will be different. I went to church yesterday because I wanted this year to start out the right way. And the lesson that was preached was titled “Resolving to Follow God”. Brother Don talked about how every year we make New Year’s resolutions and we should be making resolutions or resolving to live a more Christ like life. I feel that this is definitely true. I know this blog is about weight loss, but part of that is motivation and some great motivation is following what you believe in. I know some of you may not believe the same as me and I hope no one is offended about me writing about religion, but I have not felt this good in a long time. And, I feel that going to church and getting my life right with God has a lot to do with it.

I am not really one for making resolutions because I am always afraid I will fail. But, I have support and I am not alone, and Morris because I know you are probably reading this…I hope that you will help with that support.

So here are some issues I am resolving starting today:

  1. I will become more active in Church. I want to attend regularly and I would love for my husband to go with me as much as he can, though I know he has to work Sunday mornings. I just feel so much better and it seems that I have a much more positive attitude when I go to church.
  2. I will lose the weight this year. I know eventually I need to lose about 130 pounds, and I don’t think I can lose all of that in one year. But, I can definitely get back under 200. That’s my goal for this year. To get back down below 200, quite a bit below 200, where I will never get back over 200 again!.
  3. I will look at going back to school and talk with admissions at UALR about getting my masters in education. I will look at taking the praxis exams also.

These are my main resolutions for 2011. I want this year to different. I don’t want to feel the way I did last year ever again. I don’t want to be this overweight any more. So, here is to a fresh new start!
