That Depressed Me for a Minute…

So, I’m at work and had to go drop off the mail. The mail room is on the second floor and our office is on the third floor. I never..I repeat NEVER take the stairs. I always just hop on the elevator. Um, shouldn’t this be my first clue why I’m so overweight…that’s pretty lazy. Yes, I’m being completely honest with myself now. No more lies to try to make me feel better…ย Well, I took the mail down and looked at the stairs and decided I’d start today taking the stairs up. I mean, it’s just one level right?

Um, yeah, I was kind of depressed when I finally got to the top. I couldn’t just run up them. I had to take them slowly and then was semi-out of breath when I got to the third floor. Really?! I’m that fat and out of shape, I can’t make one flight of stairs without being out of breath? So, I was depressed for about a minute. When I then realized, um, hey at least I took the stairs.

Now, I have a goal, a small goal but to take the stairs instead of the elevator every day.ย And, hopefully soon I won’t be out of breath when I reach the top. I’ve also been walking on my lunch break and decided to take the stairs to where I go to do that as well. I’m normally tired after walking and just take the elevator then to…but not anymore. I figure that should be aย daily calorie deficit just by taking the stairs.

Well, this is my smack in the face, reality check, yet actually a small victory moment for today. ๐Ÿ™‚ And my motivational poster for today:

I hope y’all enjoy. Have a great evening! ~Charity ๐Ÿ™‚

  1. You made an awesome choice! Good for you! : ) Sometimes it is just small changes that can mean so much. : )

  2. Its little things like walking the stairs that will make all the difference in the end!!! Woooohoooo for you for making that choice! I’m knew to blogging and as I browse the blogs I’m running into a lot of wieght lose blogs and at each one I say…”Whatcha trying to say God” LOL ugh. I’ve been trying to get motivated since the start of the year, wrote my plan out, made my schedule, but hasn’t got off the paper. Thank you for this reminder that baby steps are a great place to start.

    • It is the little things. The small steps towards big changes. I know I’ll be on this journey for a while so I’m trying to take small steps to keep from being too overwhelmed, which I was feeling this morning. But, I don’t think my blog will be just about weight loss. I want it to also be about learning to love myself. I haven’t for a long time loved myself like I used to and I certainly haven’t been treating my body with respect or I wouldn’t have let my health decline as much as it has. I want this year to be about bettering myself: physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. I want to become the woman I’ve always envisioned myself to be. I want to be a better wife, friend, and Christian. I’m so glad you stopped by. And, if you do decide that this year you might need to lose some weight or learn to make healthier choices, I hope you stick around and I’ll be here to support you. ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. I remember those days! My washer and dryer are three flights of steps from my bedroom. That used to be such a horrid journey carrying a heavy basket of laundry with me. Now, of course, I have a lot less trouble. Taking the stairs consistently, you will find you get used to it pretty quickly.

To help you out…I ended up re-drawing for the pedometer winner…and guess who it was?! ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Woohoo!!! So excited! It will be really interesting to see where I am now with how many steps I take a day. I definitely want to be up to 10,000 steps a day. Thank you Erica! ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. Good for you taking the stairs!! What a lot of people don’t get is THIS is how it starts. You don’t just go from being overweight & out of shape to losing 20 or 50 lbs or running a 10k. You keep making small changes & sticking with them until they’re habits, then you make more small changes, & those become habits…& next thing you know you’ve lost 20 or 50 lbs or running a 10k. Keep it up girl!!! ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. I’ve had several ugly talks with myself about this. I wanted to jump in eating all clean healthy foods and exercising 2 hours a day, and run a marathon….yeah hell no..this type of eating and exercising maybe lasts 4 days. It’s all about the baby steps. I am striving each week to add a new habit. So far I have drink at least 64 oz of water, eat 3 servings of fruits and 5 servings of veggies (this does not include fries), take the stairs every day. So, I’m three weeks in. Trying to think of what I will start to incorporate next week. Probably an exercise challenge. Thanks for your support! I’ll be checking out your blog here shortly. ๐Ÿ™‚
