Chocolate cake you say???

TGIF!!! I hope everyone is having a fabulous Friday! Well, once a month we have a potluck for the month’s birthdays at work. I tried…I TRIED to do a healthy themed potluck. And, this has been the worst turn out for a potluck at work.

I did however try something made with soy for the first time…have to say I am not a fan. But, it was worth a shot. So, what did we have you ask? Well, I’m sure the title gives it away what my one weakness was today: Chocolate cake! Which, I shall harp on that in a little bit. Before I get all the fingers pointed at me, can I at least plead my case on what healthy foods I did eat??!!

Ok, here we go. We had a fruit tray, which I had some pineapple and grapes for breakfast. Someone also brought a raw veggie tray. We had homemade Mexican Chicken casserole, not all that healthy, but very tasty. Someone else brought a veggie goulash thing with zucchini, tomatoes, squash, and onions…it was ok. And, then I also tried Soy sausage wontons..not a fan of this either.

And then there was the chocolate cake! Well, want to know the worst part? No one else signed up to bring a dessert. So, I asked the January birthday folks what kind of cake they wanted. And, they all said chocolate. Therefore, last night I went to the bakery at the local grocery store and bought a chocolate cake and vanilla cupcakes. I drove home with that sweet chocolaty goodness in the car. Then drove to work this morning. It smelled wonderful. It has been taunting me and calling me since 9:00pm yesterday. I will admit it…I’m having a piece as I write this. It’s a lot smaller piece then what I would have gotten in the past. Sigh, I did cave and have a piece. Can I whine like a child and say “But, I want a piece really bad”? And it is so yummy, but I notice a lot sweeter than I am used to.

In conclusion, I admit I am not strong enough to resist chocolate cake altogether. Uh-oh. However, I will only have this one piece. I will also be walking on my break this afternoon.

I understand my eating habits won’t change over night and I’m working on it. Hopefully, by next month, I will be able to resist whatever cake they have. 🙂

Anyone else have problems resisting certain foods? It’s ok, you are not alone in this. 🙂

Well, I hope everyone has a great weekend. ~Charity

  1. One thing I’ve learned along the way is that nothing is off-limits. Yes, even chocolate cake. Sure, there have been a lot of things I’ve had to go cold turkey on for a while, but after “detoxing” I was able to bring them back into my diet in moderation. I always splurge one day a week & still manage to be a Loser! If I want something badly during the week, I have 3 choices:
    1. eat light the rest of the day so I can have it
    2. some extra activity so I can have it, or
    3. eat what I normally would & skip it for the day.
    You are in control!

    • So glad I’m not alone. That’s what I was thinking is if I eat this piece of cake then I’ll go walk later on my break. Which I did. So, I don’t really feel guilty for it. But, I’m just kind of re-evaluating my self control.

  2. Oh I have trouble with hot chips (fries) I love ’em but over time have been able to get better at resisting!

  3. Since I own a cupcake and candy business i am often bombarded by things ‘i shouldn’t have’. it’s something we all deal with from time to time. it’s all about moderation. i feel like one cupcake is better than the slab of cake i would have if i were cutting a piece of cake for myself were i cutting a cake and i CAN limit myself to just one! and USUALLY don’t have any!! =)
